Histoire Croisée is a training for developing methods in the non-formal historical education for multipliers from Germany, Poland and Ukraine.

"Entangled History as a perspective for non-formal education" is a series of events consisting of a training for youth workers (07.-14.11.2019) and an international youth meeting (23.2.-1.3.2020). During the training 18 youth workers from Germany, Poland and Ukraine will meet in order to develop and modify methods for the historical and civic non-formal education viewed in the context of a growing diversity in our societies. Due to globalization and migration our societies in Europe become more and more diverse. The field of non-formal education must take this challenge and needs to integrate this diversity into its project formats. Old narratives need to be analyzed and challenged and multiple perspectives on historical events have to be included.

The Holocaust as a focal point will be examined from multiple perspectives which will allow to draw conclusions on marginalized groups and discrimination in our current societies. Further goals of the project are the promotion of tolerance, giving an impulse to critical thinking as well as raising awareness towards diversity and against discrimination.

During the training participants develop and modify methods that can be applied in the following international youth meeting as well as in the every day work of the youth workers.

More

Histoire Croisée originates from the science of history and follows a multiperspective approach of transnational history. Histoire Croisée considers as many perspectives as possible (national, individual, scientific, historical, contemporary etc.) and requires a permanent reflection of one’s own point of view. Furthermore the approach seeks to raise awareness towards the interaction with other historical events. Histoire Croisée promotes a historiography that goes beyond national boundaries as well as neutrality and empathy while considering as many perspectives as possible.

The project's outcome is an online handbook.

Methodological Handbook

The project's outcome is an online handbook containing the selected methods that the participants have developed and edited during the training. It shows how Polish-German and German-Greek history can be analysed from an entangled historical approach. In its second edition the handbook was completed with new methods of Holocaust Education by multipliers of youth work from Germany, Poland and Ukraine.

Furthermore these methods can be applied to different contexts (cultural, religious, national, social etc.).
