What is MICC about?

The Model International Criminal Court (MICC) is a well-established educational programme that simulates trials before the International Criminal Court (ICC) for high school and university students from around the world. Over the course of seven days, participants take on the roles of judges, prosecution, defence, or media, and work on real historical cases that have been tried before the ICC. In addition to student simulations, MICC offers training courses for professionals in non-formal education, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to address issues related to human rights, international humanitarian law, and justice in their own educational settings.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) is the world’s first permanent court established to prosecute individuals for the most serious crimes of concern to the international community: genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and the crime of aggression. As a cornerstone of international justice, the ICC plays a crucial role in promoting accountability and the rule of law. MICC builds on these principles to foster a deeper understanding of international justice and how it can be taught through practical, case-based learning.

Since its founding in 2005, MICC has grown into a dynamic and successful programme. Its impact is rooted in the high quality of its training, its focus on timely and relevant issues, and the unique, immersive experience it offers. The working language is English, and each session combines discussions, workshops, and exchanges with professionals in the field.

By bringing together participants from Europe and beyond, MICC promotes intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding among people of diverse national and social backgrounds. Moreover, participants benefit of the broad MICC network. More information about MICC are available on the website of the programme: http://www.model-icc.org/
